Things I’ve Learned in the Past Month

Ezra’s a month old now and, as you can imagine, I’ve learned a lot in the last few weeks.

  • I can function on very little sleep. However, I cannot remember anything relating to time except the 3-hour count between each feeding.
  • That time thing I just told you – makes it almost impossible to remember when to take my herbs, my perscription, my antibiotic and when to give Exra his eye ointment. I would keep a record but I would forget to write it down…
  • I also can never remember which side to start him on when nursing and which I left off on last time.
  • Only once has my son peed into the air while changing his diaper. It was the one time I didn’t cover it because, “he never pees while changing his diaper!” At least it didn’t get on me.
  • A facial expression tells a lot. Like when you’re pooping. (see post below)
  • The Lord sustains me through extreme frustration and disappointment. I have lots of nursing issues but God in his goodness is the one who is in charge of my son – no matter how he’s fed.
  • When forced to choose between a nap and a shower, I don’t always choose the nap (suprisingly). But I usually do.
  • Our water bill has doubled – DOUBLED – since he was born. That’s b/c I’m constantly washing pumping supplies and supplementing supplies and bottles, etc, etc. Constantly.

Our baby is amazing. He’s happy, he’s healthy and he’s a good sleeper. Thank God, he’s a good sleeper. I’ve learned a lot about myself and being a mommy. The Lord has protected me from postpartum depression and from giving up on nursing. He’s given us a wonderful son and taught us how to care for him. Praise be to God.

  1. Whoo hoo for nursing! So many moms give up (some for legitimate reasons, some not), but I’m always happy to see moms sticking with it. I know you mean about washing stuff, it does seem like an endless cycle.

Hello, random blog reader and friend of Steve Hulls here. My cousin said that keeping a rubber band, or hair band on your wrist will help in remembering which side to nurse from first. Let me know if you try it and it works!

@ Randi – yeah I tried it. But I invariably ended up using the rubber band to pull back my hair. So I added another rubber band and just ended up getting the two confused. Thanks for the suggestion, though! I’ve just stopped worrying about it.
PS, would you tell Steve to start blogging again, please?
